COURSE DESCRIPTION & OVERALL GOAL

This conference will provide current updates for testing and treatment for TB infection, management of drug resistant TB, infection control practices, contact investigation, and DOT vs self-administered therapy for treatment of TB. It will also feature the experience of a person affected by TB. The format will include lectures with questions and answers, case studies and a panel discussion. It will also promote networking among colleagues, resource sharing and collaborations with partnering agencies.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This conference is open to physicians, nurses, epidemiologists, researchers as well as other health professionals who manage patients at risk for or diagnosed with TB infection or disease.

OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this conference, participants should be better able to:

  • Apply current recommendations for testing and treatment of TB infection
  • Integrate principles for the diagnosis and management of patients with drug resistant TB.
  • Explain the fundamentals for conducting TB contact investigations to assess for TB exposure and prevent ongoing transmission
  • Assess the benefits of directly observed therapy (DOT) vs self-administered therapy and alternative options for treatment of TB
